Well SOS is about to begin, we are on the way there. I took a short cut in Nebraska
sos2012006.jpg

It turned into a gravel road, normally I do not get really lost, but in this case, it turns out that I was really lost here, as I was not in Nebraska anymore, this turned out to be Colorado.

A little further down the road, the road got better, but the weather did not. Joe says it is 72 degrees where he is.

Chip should recognize this, we found time to stop at Liberty Memorial for a while as we had a change in travel plans, due partly to a short cut and partly due to weather that caused the short cut, well OK it was my driving that caused the short cut.

Here is a shot of Joe at our table.

Leaving early AM on Wednesday.

Gus did you notice the Polar Bears in the second Photo on the right side trying to cross the road?
:-k
Jerry

If you see a 6th Kurassier OR helmet, maybe some info on the seller, such as his cell number? :)

Anyhoo, have a GREAT time at the show, I'm certain you will!

:D Ron

Or a regular M1915 EM Kuerassier metalhelme with the right cavalry wappen & spike, a good liner & chinstrap and ideally made by Lachmann with the large cockades, let me know... All up to $1,750 or less! :-"

Have fun for all of us and good hunting!

We made it to Indiana with out taking any more short cuts, we had the windows rolled down today as it was so nice.
we stopped for a few hours at the Liberty Memorial for the first time, some nice displays, but not the same as SOS. They do not let you handle or buy any of the stuff there.
I will stop off at the bail bond shop to get the paper work started so we do not loose any partying time in the next few days.
I did not see the polar bears, I couldnot even see the road, luckily, Colorado is a fairly flat state, and we just kept heading south until we popped out of the snow.

I know the show itself is one of the highlights of the year for those of you in the States who can get there, but, for me, Gus's account of his trip there each year is just as much a highlight! Keep posting, Gus.

No no Gus, we don't want you to get lost as it would be nice to see photos from WITHIN the SOS as well...

Keep posting Gus, you've got faithful viewers!

Gus,

I'm a little PO'ed that you dropped by the National WWI Museum and didn't give me a call (I'm just ten minutes away!). Maybe next year?

Glad you enjoyed rural Colorado. I was was driving in that same storm about 60 miles west.....and thinking "I left North Dakota for this?"

I do not blame you Chip. I thought I had your phone number in my phone, but did not, no one at the museum could help either.
Nest year, I think I will have to schedule a bit more time for it.

We hit the freeway at Burlington, and the radio said the road between Goodland and Denver was closed, but we weere able to go east, and there was only two cars off before we got out of the weather.
Gus

I've been on that road when I covered the Burlington area, always hoped I didn't have a breakdown..they'd find the body in the spring thaw :D

Nice photos Gus! I recognize your MANNEQUIN (correct spelling  ) guarding the area although I would've preferred to see Joe's lab...

I think I also see an M15 EM Kuerassier on Jim's table(?). Is it a Lachmann with the correct cavalry wappen & large cockades? =P~

You guys should allow the poor fellow collectors/members like myself stuck in no man's land to do some sort of online bidding/buying... :-"

Hey Ron,
This is just not possible, the amount of time to get through the show for ourselves is not there, we take turns shopping and manning the table, and the time at the table is a blessing as the walking in the show is brutal. If you see something while you are shopping, you either buy it then or have a good chance of never seeing again, either because you can not find it, or James beat you to it. Bargains are there to be had, but they must be purchase quickly as they do not stay on the tables. The prices are for the most part, higher than on the interweb, and a lot of the stuff purchased for a bargain price will soon show up on flea bay anyway.
The biggest reason to show up to SOS is for the people, that is one thing that you can not find on the interweb, well, I am wrong there, as most of us have met through the interweb, but the personal contact is impossible to simulate.
This was another great show, there were some interesting items added to collections, and a few new contacts made and we might get a few photos posted in the next few days as everyone gets caught up.

Have fun !
