Talc on picklehaube?

Do a nice pickle was posted on WAF and it has a thin layer of what looks like talc ? I have seen this before and assumed it was mould or something?

So what is it ? Thanks bob

For many - even advanced collectors - it does not detract from helmet quality; it is even added value as it confirms that the helmet has not been touched for a very long time. At the September Kube auction, most historical helmets and Tschapkas from Bavarian princes showed this white surface. The Germans name it the "old chocolate" appearance.

I agree . I have some helmets like this

It was discussed a few years ago…

Google-AI also gives tips to eliminate it (Term: Fatty spew (or spue)) … But I wouldn’t recommend this, as you could completely ruin the helmet very quickly.
