Thoughts on Metal Tschapka

I am close to buying this but as always I would like some opinions on authenticity.

I am trying to get another picture of how the badge attaches.

All opinions appreciated.

Thanks.

Peter

I have yet to own a metal Tschapka so can't say much about the construction. In my opinion, the liner is not original to the helmet.

Yes I was wondering about that and maybe if the helmet is a reproduction? Looks really good to me but I am a complete novice when it comes to Tschapkas.

The chance of getting a real liner to replace and clamp it in is almost nil so unless the price is very good, I would give it a miss. I also have doubt with the wappen.

I know very little about these and see there have been other posts on UK Fakes. I know the liner looks too new but am wondering about the rest?

Was thinking of getting it tomorrow but am nervous now.

Still looking for expert advice.

Cheers.

Peter

The liner and the front wappen appear to be fakes to me.
The top should be attached to the skull with flanges going through the hole in the dome.
Here the dome slides into the top.
I think that this is 100 % repo.

The wappen is a reproduction, lacks crisp details and has been chemically treated to look tarnished and old. Don’t waste your money Pete.

Peter a year ago I completed the restoration of this tschapka.Maybe these photos will help you.

So just for fun, if one was going to get a "placeholder" Tschapka that was a decent quality reproduction - what would it be worth?

I was excited by this one when I thought it was real as it was selling for about $450 USD.

Peter

P.S. And yes I know asking what things are worth is slightly "bad form" as our UK friends say....

Save your money for one that is 100 % original
Steve

I had a look at that Tschapka on the same site. My first reaction was "the Wappen is a repro" and the liner isn't correct.

I'd also give it a miss.
