Jim is having problems logging on. He admits operator error. This is an except from an email from him.

I think I’ll have the first volume of our book available at the show. We’ve decided to publish a two volume hard cover set with all of our information, and also a soft cover spiral bound Field Manual for collectors to be able to take to shows and use as an on site reference with drawings of the helmet plates, listings of information for every regiment, and photos of the duty and parade configuration of every helmet. The Field Manual is what I hope to have available at the show. Here’s the Table of Contents for the FM. It will have approximately 200 pages.

John O’Connor

I don't know much about the contents but "I have seen some wappen art work that was quite good. Apparently they commissioned some artist to do almost"mechanical" drawings.

I didn't see the "Field Manual" at the MAX, but I picked up a flier promoting both books. The co-author is Albert O'Connor. The links below provide a glimpse at the format. Based on what I've seen, the layout will be similar to Lainé, but will combine color photographs and graphics. I can't wait to order mine. It will put those useless Schiffer books to shame.

Take a look:

I sent an e-mail asking when they will be ready?

If anybody finds out when they can order them, let me know. The website says still under construction.

these look to be interesting flyers.

as it says in the flyer there are two books. One is the Field manual and the other the big book. The Field manual is in the galley stage and should be available within the next month. The big book is still well off. In theory, there are some signatures coming my way. I will share what I have when I get them

The co-author is Albert O'Connor.
The flyer actually lists Jn. Albert O'Connor. It is sort of a screen name. Albert O'Connor was John's grandfather. While Albert is John's middle name, he intended the name to be an honor to his grandfather. Heard lots of people call him Pastor but he normally goes as John.

Hi Joe:

Thanks for straightening me out. When I read that, all I could think of was "Junior." Shows you what I know.

Fairborn is not far from WPAFB, but it's a long way from me.

The book is still not ready.

Jim and I are about to get the colored 'signatures/ gally proofs' for our grafic artist/ editor and Canterbury Press (our printing house). So I'd say within weeks (short weeks) The Field Guide will be ready for purchase and mailing.

There is now a slideshow available on their website.

It was little syncopated getting started. I had to click on the far right arrow to make it start working.

The book is out! You can get an order form at: www.kaiserhelmets.com

Jim has started shipping copies. I will give it a close review once it arrives. [As long as it arrives before the next cruise]

The shipping cost is five dollars, bringing the total cost for a US copy of the book to $37.22 including the postage. To send it to Canada is $44.95.

Jim will be at SOS. He will be selling copies of the book from our group of tables. He will arrive Friday morning and will sell it without postage but due to some bookseller deals there will not be a show special on the price. Based on the amount of color printing I have seen I don't think he is making much money per copy. Looks like a real labor of love. More to follow.

Hmm...... the authors claim "pin point accuracy" yet in their review they spell Tschako "Tshako" and they spell Tschapka "Tshapka"...

Uh oh......

The artwork does look superb though.

The artwork does look superb, however in the promotional material I noticed that the sample page (#179) titled Plates/Wappens identifies a plate at figure 3.1 as "artillery school". The plate depicted is I believe actually the NCO school front plate.

Hello Reservist 1,
You are correct, Figure 3.1 was incorretly identified in the website posting, but it is correct on page 179. The webpage has an early draft of the page, and we were protecting ourselves a little.
Thanks for noticing the error. I hope you're enjoying your Field Guide.
Jim Turinetti

Hello Tony and Kaiser,
Thanks for catching my screw up on Tschako and Tschapka. My fault, but now I'll be able to do it right in the next volume. If you're at the SoS, your copy of the Field Guide is on me.
Thanks again, Jim Turinetti

Jim shipped me my copy very fast after payment, I have to say I really enjoy the book, takes a little bit to get used to all the columns, but once you get use to it, it is loaded with information.

IMO worth the money!

Review is up on the website

http://www.pickelhauben.net/books/Turinetti.html

This is a steal for $35. I know he is taking some copies to put on the table -- our tables -- at SOS. It is not a teaching volume. This is a reference work. You get my opinion on the site.

I think that will be the larger volume they are workign on, this one is very light. Maybe 3/4 inch think

James

No not 7 pounds -- my error. It is 1 lb. 12 oz. I could say I miss typed it but I guess I lipped it! Thanks for pointing it out! But I would not call it very light -- far heavier than I thought the glossy paper makes it weigh more than it looks.
