Untouched Model 1891 Württemberg

Here is a gem. An untouched Model 1891 Württemberg Infantry issued Pickelhaube.

And if that's not enough, it has very unique M91 mounts on the chinstrap, and a very interesting issue stamp,. The stamp appears to be I.B. or J.B.

I.B. being Kommando der Infanterie-Brigade. However, the rear visor stamp to me, appears to be J.B.

As the German J is interchangeable with the letter I for Infanteire, why would they mark a Pickelhaube Infantry Battalion?

If so, no Regiment number, no Battalion number? Odd.

Again though, as the German J is interchangeable with the letter I for Infanterie, could this marking mean Kommando der Infanterie-Brigade?

Best feature of this great little helmet though, are the machined chinscale mounts. Never have I seen this before.

HERE is the link to the full page with the standard write-up and photos.

Enjoy.

Very nice Tony, just read your write up as well, thanks for sharing. the side mounts are very cool and interesting. No doubt real, but never seen like that before.

Interesting and beautiful helmet Tony! Those mounts are very interesting. I wonder why they were made that way.

When did Württemberg adopt the Pickelhaub? Could the I.B. just mean first battalion ?

Württemberg adopted the Pickelhaube in 1871. An enlisted private purchase Model 1871 can be seen here:

I'm pleased you all enjoyed looking at this helmet and appreciate the comments. It is only the second M1891 I have ever come across. They are very difficult to find in any configuration.

It´s my opinion too

Those chinstrap mounts are indeed very rare! I only saw picts of one or two of them on a french forum the last few years.
