Baden World War I Pickelhaube from the "Victory Pyramid" in New York

Pickelhaube field grey model 1915 for infantry enlisted men. Manufactured in chamber quality around 1915. Leather helmet, complete with all fittings in field grey iron. The Baden griffin on the front, original leather storm strap on button 91, both cockades. The neck rail with ventilation slide. Removable peak with bayonet closure. On the back of the bell with the label of the helmets intended for the pyramid, at the bottom of the neck rail with the original metal loop for attaching to the pyramid. Inside with lapped leather lining. Size approx. 54. Uncleaned. Condition 2.

A piece of historical and museum significance!

In 1919, to celebrate the victory in the "Great War", a pyramid of thousands of captured Pickelhaube helmets was erected on "Park Avenue", which had been renamed "Victory Way". The pieces were then sold to the citizens and the proceeds given to the widows and orphans. Only very few of these pieces have survived! This is the first one we have been able to purchase on the market in over 40 years!

I saw it for sale on Helmut's site, as I look at his updates every weekend. A very nice helmet!
And a rare one with its provenance. I have a Baden M15 in my collection, but not one with that provenance.

I can't make out the label on the back can anyone tell me what it says and how that makes it "intended for the wall".

Maybe this label has been documented somewhere but I can't seem to remember it.

It's a nice helmet for someone looking for a Baden M15.

Thank you DougB. Pretty sure after all these years of looking at Pickles I would have come across this label, but I have not seen anything even similar. So not sure how the label links it to the Pyramid. Rob

I can’t make out what the label says so I assume it must tie the piece back to the pyramid unless there is some other provenance of record that isn’t written in the sale article? But yes, I don’t see what ties this piece to the pyramid.
