The crown above the cypher W in the Pelzmütze is not the imperial crown, Wilhelm II became Kaiser in 1888, so.... He was of course also King of Prussia, but I do not recall having seen ever a cypher of him with a royal crown after the coronation as Kaiser. Johan

My friend asked me to post some more pictures of the helmet, here they are. You will notice that this helmet has not been tampered with in any way, clear traces of the Reichsadler plate on the helmet, makers' mark.

On these helmets there are already 4 rectangular holes for the star (that is 3 for the star and 1 in the centre for the little eagle which is attached separately), so it could well be a Swiss Gruyère cheese behind that plate. See what our friend has to tell about this. Johan

I think it is always wise to focus on what a helmet or anything else that is not necessary for daily comfort is worth to you, regardless what the market price is. This doesn't mean you have to throw money in the dustbin, but that you have to put your own goals and thus avoid disappointments...

As mentioned before, the Royal Army Museum in Brussels has the same helmet. Notice the stepped visor (not double!). The Prussian Kokarde is missing, but there are clear markings there was one originally. And here is the EM Garde Meldereiter. Johan

Here in Brussels, in the fabulous Royal Army Museum, we have a similar helmet, I think with the double stepped visor and yellow mountings. I'll post a picture as soon as I can. Johan
