    Good news!

Joe, did they ever send the 2 cases of Just My Taste ? If not, I'll get them for you. The movie hit a slight snag...we have to wait til the producer gets out of rehab. That's not a joke. Ahh, Hollywood !

    Headgear Plate Identification

The 1st Austrian helmet plate is for a Dragoon officer. The Austrian plate with the #2 is for the 2nd Uhlan Regiment. The Shapka had a dark green covering with silver chain and lion's heads for the 2nd Regt.

    Sun Helmet to Avoid

I have 2 examples of that American helmet in the same color brown. One with a New York State plate and the other infantry. Peter has a book coming out on pith helmets which should be a great resource. The guy on ebay needs to order one.

    Hungarian Police

This is an interesting looking helmet. It is a summer version Hungarian Police helmet. It is oilcloth over wire. Worn from WW1 to the beginning of WW2. So ugly it's cool. Click to view full-size image Click to view full-size image

    Militaria shops in New York

Go to the weekend flea market and go into the antique shops surrounding it. Michael Morris has a shop there plus others. I don't remember the street, but its several blocks from the Flat Iron building.

    Austrian spiked helmet

The helmet in the photo is an Austro-Hungarian ersatz cloth- covered cork helmet. There is an exact example in the Military Museum in Prague. The brass wappen is painted over a flat grey. The Museum labled it as a combat field police helmet if my Czech was correct. Regards, Corky

    Colonial Headgear

Peter, that is not a standard colonial pith helmet. Several years ago at the Max there was a massive display of colonial gear which included many helmets. This style was not present in that display. This looks like a Bombay helmet to me. Plus, the bird on the fez seems odd. Corky

    Saxon Busby

Actually, I believe the seller is off on the 1950 date. This looks like a 1970's reproduction by Der Fliegerbatallion of Lumberton, N.C.. His 1888 Indian Scout is a $300.00 repro by F. Burgess & Co., now deceased. Also, the leather on the 17th lancer chinstrap looks awfully new. By referring to...
