    Pics of lefty riflemen ?

I am a lefty, and have fired many military weapons from the Brown Bess to the M16 and M60 ... trapdoors, Krags, '03 Springfield, M1, M14, M1 carbine, M3 greasegun, Thompson, many types of Mauser, several models of Enfields, MP40, Ppsh41 and 43, K43, MG34, SKS, AK-47 to name a few. Some...

    Your collection's fate?

Like all collectors, I have thought about this too. I may sell it myself before I check out, or let my kids have it after I'm gone, keep what they want, send the rest to auction. Let other collectors have the opportunity to enjoy the pieces as much as I have and the kids can have fun with the...

    Das Reich !

I had a WW2 German collection at one time. When I was a kid I lived in Levittown NY for a while. The original suburb, almost entirely populated by WW2 vets. On one side of me lived a M36 tank destroyer gunner, fought in the Bulge. On the other side a Marine, Pacific vet. I once saw him pruning...

    SOS 2015

I agree. The helmet is nice, but not many people have the class to have Pfalz and a DH-2 hanging in their kitchen. Steve

    Fury?

I watched the movie, thought it was OK. Obviously the story was pure Hollywood. Having said that, there were bits and pieces that were right on. I was impressed to see a real operating Tiger 1. The tactics used to deal with it were somewhat accurate, but compressed for the sake of filmmaking. I...

    British Collector's House Raided

In the states these raids occur fairly frequently, with lots of media and law enforcement hype about discovering a "secret arsenal". Then it goes away, the liberal media and police having made their point about the dangerous gun nuts, survivalists and militia members. In many if not most cases...

    Dang good fake

The only problems I see (if they are problems at all) are the stitching on the rear seam of the liner is nicer than I'm used to seeing, and the corrosion on the spike backing plate looks severe. If the fakes are getting this good, it's time to throw in the towel. Steve

    All Original???

You see a lot of this kind of dishonesty in the samurai sword market as well. The recent flood of fake swords from China has spawned a host of descriptions similar to that above such as "vet bring back", "vet acquired", "been in my family for many years", "brought back by my _______" father...

That would be the case for the fife. Hornists played both. Steve

    JR 179 OR's Helme

Looks like someone shot it with a .22. Over the years I have seen more than a few helmets that had damage inflicted after the war. I had a very nice early WW2 American steel helmet and a nice German M16 that had dents from the previous owner shooting at them with a .45 "to see if it would go...

    Nice M15 EM prussian helmet

Rusty wappen, tattered liner, chinstrap and cockades look like repros. I don't like to be negative, but not my idea of a nice helmet. Steve

    Number 3

Congratulations! I raised 3 beautiful daughters myself and can say there is NOTHING more challenging and rewarding. There is no greater responsibility in life than raising children. They can however, cut into your collecting activities. As a friend said to me, "haven't you figured out what...

    Deer Hoof boot knives

The first dagger appears to be marked "Kan Michells" which I would take to mean Kanonier Michells. Steve

Bavarian pickelhaube - any alarm bells ringing?

I don't see how the weight of the spike can cause the depression in cruciform spike base helmets. The spike weighs almost nothing. It is far more likely the sunken top is caused by natural shrinkage of the leather, which is unsupported. In contrast, round spike bases offer solid support for the...

    plated 1915 helmet

Actually, the chin scales look like they came off a Kaiser Alexander Garde Grenadier mitre. Obviously the helmet is grossly overpriced, but if someone needs those scales.... Steve

    would be a nice poster...

Very nice, especially the artillery helmets. For some reason M15 artillery helmets don't show up very often, and when they do, they seem to be from the 44th F.A.R.. Steve

How do people react when you say you collect pickelhaubes?

Actually, the best body disposal method is a pig farm. Just ask the Hell's Angels. Steve

I agree. Beautiful helmet, don't touch a thing. Steve

    SOS B Loree Filz JzP

I have watched this thread with interest. I have not handled the helmet, and my knowledge of cavalry helmets is relatively limited. Therefore I have no opinion on its authenticity. Posking, you are not doing yourself any favors here. While nobody can claim to know everything, the members here...
