Well Chas I think you may be supprised by what you have there. The CDV has caused quite a bit of interest on GMIC but here's a link to the answer you are looking for. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtopic=27173&view=findpost&p=256701 I'd be interested in hearing all about that "Polar Medal"...

    "Take the Crimea...

Well Chas, In the end my interests went back to the Crimea, and one thing lead to another. My interest in the "Cameron Highlanders" led me to look deeper and earlier. A strange thing happened. I advertised on the " British Medals Forum" that I was looking for anything to the Camerons ... well...

    New book by Jack Sheldon

Received it a couple of days ago Mark. It does cover the later part of Passhendale from early Oct through to Nov and Dec of the battle. The book is in a very simular format to the Somme book. Well worth the money.

    Something for Lost Skeleton

Dave, Neither do I see the connection, but the bar is 100% original. That's what makes it so interesting to me. I agree that the Hohenzollern connection could well be through ID 28, this is the most probable senario. By the way the Hohenzollern is the gilt award. Needs far more research yet...

    Something for Lost Skeleton

Chas, Take your time, an artical on this rare award would be VERY interesting. To be honest it should also be shown to a wider audience. To those of you who are not that up on British awards, believe me ... This one is outstanding. Related to captain Scott's Antartic Expidition of 1902-04 who...

    fiber pickelhaube

To be honest, I wouldn't touch it with a badge pole. Apart from a good condition OR shell, the rest looks put together to me

    Something for Lost Skeleton

Chas, thanks to the link to the Sudan award, I may take the bait? The history behind yor MM is fantastic. Like you, one of the reasons I collect to British awards is that in most cases the history is traceable. It's not a "one up" thing ... it's about sharing information and history and I'm...

    Baden 111 IR Mannschaft Haube

Thanks Geo, The shot of your Baden is the same marks as mine. I wonder why white paint was used, but I suppose it was down to what was available at the time of marking ... or is there another reason?

James, I guess you mom got it wrong ... you share your toys well on the forum. I've gently cleaned this lovely Haube (as per Tony's guide) and it now sparkles.
