Almost forgot this fellow at left center (Thanks Ron). It certainly does look like a Prussian Schutzmannschaft pickelhaube. Joe has an absolutely outstanding photo of a soldier wearing such a helmet that is as clear an image as you could ever hope for!

Again a long time after the last reply...
I am pretty sure that the guys on the first pic are from the RJR76 (as on the second pict). As the regimental history of this unit tells, the guys of the RJR76 were moved for a few months after the mobilization in the Nord-Schleswig area for the Grenzschutz (Denmark border). That would perfectly explain those other guys with those custom helmets.
And all the guys on the pict are not pretty young so they really coud have belong to this reserve unit. One can also see the reserve cross on one or two helmets of the first pict. Definitly RJR76 :wink:
