Thanks fyi the cartridge is from a WW1 German flare pistol and was bought back by a New Zealand veteran.Steve,
are there any details/informations on the backside (photographer & town name)?
Otherwise, a big enlargement of the Schulterklappe would be helpful.
Greetings Jens

I agree I had looked up Wurttemberg ArtillerySteve,
yes - probably württemberger Field Artillery - the photo is from Ludwigsburg:
https://wiki.genealogy.net/Garnisonsorte_1914
... and there was the Württemberger Field Artillery Regiment No. 29 & No.65.
Both units won the Königsabzeichen: FAR29: 1895, 1898, 1901 - the FAR65: 1905 and 1912.

I estimate the photo after 1899. Since 1899, the burning round grenade (+ number) was used on field artillery shoulder boards.
The image resolution is unfortunately not good enough to identify the shoulder board number, so both units are possible.
Best regards, Jens
Steve,... FAR 29 had a cypher
...
JensSteve,
that*s correct, but the FAR29 have the cypher "L" until May 1913 and the Königsabzeichen they won before that time.
Best regards, Jens
I have redone my Kaiser & King Prize display
so to show a couple of helmets front plates
as worn by Jager troops
Some of the Jager Prizes have the incorrect cloth backing .
and to display my small collection
of very rare Prussian and Saxon Machine Gun prizes View attachment 21414
I can't remember if that one has a date or not ?Do we know why a few of the Jager badges have no date on the skull? I see one here on the far right.
Thanks, Lance
I don't eitherI've seen several Jager Kaiser Prizes without dates. Just last week there was one on offer in a US auction. Looked like a completely legit piece but without a date.
I don't understand why they exist.
Extra nice double dateHere are the ones on my Garde Jäger senior NCO tunic.
I personally don't buy any badges without dates on them.
I have notJust curious, has anyone encountered a badge on a uniform without a date? I haven't...
