Websites of Interest

:D :) Thanks eric for the thoughts on "regimentals".I have never purchased a helmet from them but about 5 years ago I purchased a JZP sword and was mildly disappointed [it had the persons name partially scratched off]. Its good to get a heads up on these websites. Dick

To be fair, I have bought several absolute text-book un-altered rare originals from Regimentals. With any dealer, know your stuff, do your research, ignore the description and let your eyes tell tell you what the item is.

:D :) Hi; I'm wondering if antbody has bought anthing from Saxonia Militaria? There are a couple of things that have caught my eye and wondering about this website. Dick

Many of you know about this anyway -- but I am absolutely amazed by what they have done with monuments. Incredible work.

Joe, What an extraordinary website and resource. If only I could read more than 10 words of German!!

Joe, What an extraordinary website and resource. If only I could read more than 10 words of German!!

My problem is that I am in information overload! Websites, books, -- I cannot keep my website updated and I keep changing from one topic to the next. I keep learning a great deal but have so far to go. My only problem with German is that I think I miss a lot of nuance. There is actually a course annually on German scripts taught in Pennsylvania. I am tempted -- fracteur is no problem but hand writing drives me nuts!

If you are language challenged try the pictures on this website

In particular this newspaper -- Deutsche Kriegszeitung. Illustrierte Wochenausgabe vom Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger. (Berlin)

:???: :-? :? :tank: Tony; The "no comment" makes me a little uneasy. I was interested in a Saxon artillery and a 2nd foot artillery,3rd batterie helmet. Maybe I'll backoff for awhile! Dick

great resource material thank you all,...I'm still on my quest ...joerookery do you still have a contact for the owner?

Infantry Regiment 187 -- Mark sent me these and they are amazing.

Alas Herr Dose, who was an always loyal pen friend for years, died some months ago, on 12-09-2008. I do owe a lot to him.
We are not able anymore to communicate with this well informed gentleman. Chapeau, that he kept the remembrance, the war diaries of his father and the period pictures. Honour him to visit still his heritage, his very interesting webpages about IR 187!

I found this museum by accident. There are some really really cool pictures in here.

If you don't already know it, have a look at the Kaisercross site.

They have a lot of articles covering tactics and units. For example, the article the links goes to is about the two flamethrower units that were intitled to wear the famous scull on their sleeves (the Totenkopfpioniere).

A Dutch friend did send me this link to a Turkish website with amazing, moving panorama pictures of the Gallipoli battlefields. (Turkish: Canakkale-Gelibolu).
As the text is in Turkish, I advise you to start off with the map of Gallipoli on the website, on which all photo's are to be visited with a click. All location names however are in Turkish. Keep a map at hand or a sketch of the Gallipoli battlefield with the for you and me more familiar English names, compare the locations on the maps and choose your panorama!
It looks like you are one of the battlefield tourists, and besides, it is amazing how well the Turks preserved this battlefield, where also their national founding father, Kemal Ataturk, fought.
