I recently acquired an 1860's helmet. It is in tatty condition but is interesting.
inside it is marked I B there are other makings but I cant make them out.
what I didn't notice at first is that around the spike is scratched : 1870 1 ARMEE CORPS
There is also scratched onto the spike base...

I hope this is of interest its a fragment of helmet cover for the 150th infanterie Regiment, it was found at Tannenberg together with helmet parts that I have made up into a helmet on an old shell, will post pics shortly.
