    Thank you John. It may at least be a start. Shows quite a bit of wear. The fellow I received it from had another cap that was different. It had the typical Prussian Kokarde. They came from the same household, so I suppose it is possible they were switched at some time in the last 100 or so...

    Carbines and bayonets

    There was an Artillery Version of the Kar.88 that did accept a bayonet. Can't recall if it was a modification (I think so IIRC) of the Standard Kar.88 or a new made firearm. They are quite scarce. Best Regards! - Mike

    Thanks Guys - Best as I can tell, the kokarden look to be in 'original' slots, though the lower one has one of the pins broken off inside. Should mention, the center on the lower kokarde is dark blue, not black. Best regards! - Mike
