Sundays Find

Post by derekb » Sun Sep 20, 2015 8:42 am

Hi Everyone,

I picked this helmet up this morning, the inside is marked "C.E. Juncker" over "1915" and the rim of the rear peak is marked with "8? K" and "58".

The helmet has been in a smokers house and has what appears to be a layer of nicotine all over the outside except under the leather strap.

Would you clean it or leave it as it is and if it is to be cleaned what would you recommend?

I will add some more photos.
Thanks and regards,

Derek.

Regrettably I know next to nothing about 'pointy helmets' but it looks superb!

here in belgium we have a product that is called dc one
it is a substance to clean nicotine and other dirt
you just spray it leave it few minutes on to do its work and spray off with water
you dont even have to schrub or anyting
and the best part is you dont damage any surface
the patine underneath the nicotine stay's on it
what i do not know is that you can get sutch product in england

A fine helmet congrats! We have a product called TSP which is used to wipe down walls before you repaint them. It does not damage paint, you apply, it takes off grease, oils and smoke, then you rinse it off with clean water. I would use that because every time you handle this your hands are going to stink of nicotine.

I agree with the two above. I like patina, but not goo on the helmet. Nice find by the way!

:D Ron
I really do need to know more about this....

Nice helmet and usually I advocate leave as is but not in this case because of the goo that's covering the patina.

Edwin
