Broken wappen loops for me are a bad sign, they could have broken because someone was trying to fit this wappen into holes on the helmet that the wappen loops were not a match for.

Do you have a copy of the book "Pickelhauben (Spiked Helmets)" by Eric Johansson? It's full of a lot of "old fakes" and other questionable helmets.

Hey Jeff There are many reference books out there, many of which have information that others don't and vice versa. In a way, each book looks at the subject matter a little differently. In my opinion I would start with the Verlag Militaira reference books, they have great photos, in depth...

I don't collect steel helmets and really know nothing about them but from looking at this it just looks completely fake.

Looks good to me but I would want to see a better detailed picture of the "SUUM CUIQUE" star on the eagle and a good picture of the hardware under the liner. Seems like a fair request from the seller seeing that this helmet will go somewhere near the €2.000 range.

That is a fantasy helmet, sorry. I think the front wappen is trying to copy a Imperial Kurassier helmet. Historically or as a actual Imperial German collectible helmet I think it would want to look like this....
