    The Confidence Men

Just read a ripping tale of how two POWs (a pilot from New Zealand and an artillery officer with the Indian Army) conned the Turks into aiding their escape during WW1. "The Confidence Men" (Fox, Margalit, Random House, New York, NY, 2021), they used magic to convince the Turks they were nuts...

    Why FR

I was recently asked a question about my helmets that in the past 65 years I've never been asked nor even thought about. The question was,"Why is there a FR on the helmet plate?". The monarch was Willy, shouldn't it had been a WR on the plate? Britain has always changed the monogram when the...

    German Army Bands

Any one know where within the organization of a regiment the band fit in the Imperial German Army? Where the members of the band pulled from the individual companies? Or, was the band its own unit? Or, was the band part of a Company? Thanks

    Holster markings

A friend of mine has recently come up with a P08 holster. The holsters marked 3FaAR 1912 1FA. I'm assuming the 1FA is first field artillery. It is also marked: B S T WM 16 12 Not sure about the meaning of 1FaAR (what does the lower case "a" represent)? No real idea about the other batch of...

    Busbies in China

Between 1900 and 1905 were there any units posted to the East (China) that would have worn a busbie? I ask, because on another page someone has one posted and I've never heard of Huzzars in China.

    New Post option fault

I've noticed over the past week that the "New Posts" quick link is not working the way it use too. It use to delete post from its list after you read them, now it's just adding new post. So each day the list grows longer and longer.

    Unknown Knot

As part of a group of Imperial German items I recently acquired was included this bayonet knot. It doesn't conform to the color pattern for these knots. Anyone know what it may be? It is all white with black fringe (100% white is first company of first battalion). Could this one be police or fire?

    Pointless Pickelhaube

A recent addition to my collection - this 1915 pattern Bavarian Officer's Helmet. Helmet came with a case and cover, but no spike. It is missing the cockades as well. There are signs that the helmet did once have cockades ( see photo of right side). I can see xanthin that would indicate that...

    Polish

"Other than Ulan, there were only five units in the Imperial German Army that utilized Polish cuffs on tunic with a vertical central opening making this an uncommon combination." Kaiser's Bunker. Recent Find

On a recent outing I found a M'15 Tschapka with an Überzug (although I've had a couple Tschapkas I've alway want a M'15 with the cover). The best part it fits me. The helmet does have a maker's stamp but it is not legible, just too faded. I can not find any other markings on the helmet. The...

    New 1918 find

I recently picked up a number of German WWI items. One of these items was a 1918 steel helmet. The shell is an ET 64, while the chin strap in marked L. Estalmann, Straussburg, 1918. In the top of the helmet is a paper label; "bar. Schulmann R111. 55 " There may be more but a stain has...
