Toggle for fangschnur on ersatz tin tschapkas

Just curious, did all tschapkas have a hole in motarboard for a toggle for the securing cord? Possibly late in the war the saw no use on a tin model? I think I have seen a few on the internet lacking this. Thanks

    Model question

Thanks for the info John, I should have stated national cockade may not be original to helmet and the Oldenburg is a replica.

    Model question

Oldenburg: I have had this quite a while. I assumed it was model 1891. Figured it was a private purchase, other ranks. Only two holes for wappen. Referencing Kaiserbunker, all the fittings seemed M1891 to me, but the spike only has 2 vent holes: should the spike have more holes for this model...

Bavarian cockade colors...that light silver color vs. white

I bought a Bavarian 1915 grey fitting a few weeks ago on Ebay. I did a search on the site here, and was glad to find some info on the colors. I assumed it was light blue and white, but see that actually it should be silver and lt. blue? I need to paint the replica cockades and wondered, can...

What are the thougths on a loose visor?

A while back I bought a pickelhaube on Ebay. 1915. The visor is securely attached at both sides by the round head retaining "pins". But, while the stitching is all evident and intact on outside of brim, it has apparently come loose over the years. It does not flop around, but will move slightly...

Wondering about cockades / kokarden configuration

Yes, who knows if they were original or not, but saw a number of national cockades on Ebay, advertised as original, that had no ring. I just wondered if there was some standard that dictated which type of cockade would have that ring or not have it. Maybe ring is not the right term, it is like a...

Wondering about cockades / kokarden configuration

I have wondered for some time now, and guess I might as well ask: it seems I see two kinds of cockade ( for the 1915), some have a "lip" or ring bordering the middle color ring, and others do not. It is hard to describe this so I uploaded a couple of pictures from Ebay to show the difference. I...

Regimental marking 2FsAR, 1915 spike top, not ball

ok, I have tried to figure it out, but will have to show my ignorance...at least I tried. A helmet on Ebay. 1915 Bavarian, grey fitting spike top. A photo shows the mark 2FsAR (unless I am reading it wrong). I logged on to Colonel J's and read thru the non infantry marks, and I guess this is...

Wonder what the thoughts are on this

I think that would be great to try Ron, I know there are some good ref sites on the web, but I appreciate when we spot one on Ebay, and can ref the pics as to what doesn't look quite right. Also, some of the methods to age things. I bought a good copy (not from India) of a Confederate sword, and...

Wonder what the thoughts are on this

Here is one on UK Ebay. The liner looks to have a slight pattern, in very nice shape, and are those eyelets in it? Seems to be black on both sides too if you look closely. ( I don't know how to post a pic below text here)...

Wonder what the thoughts are on this

Not to knock the helmet or seller, but just for a general reference are there other things from the photos that might indicate a copy, other than pristine liner? thanks

Wonder what the thoughts are on this

I can't bid on this now anyway, but wondered what you all thought. Is it possible for a liner to look that nice? http://cgi.ebay.com/Bavarian-WW1-Spiked-spike-Pickelhaube-helmet-brass_W0QQitemZ220582174888QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335bb8e0a8

How do people fix "squashed" pickelhaubes?

Thanks for the quick reply Robert. Now I won't wonder about that anymore.

How do people fix "squashed" pickelhaubes?

I don't have one, but a number of times I see them on the internet, and they seem complete, but have been squashed by being in a trunk or something. I started wondering if they can be reshaped, gradually, back to original form, or if and how people fix them? Just curious. thanks

Just a run of the mill helmet, but I finally have one

I went thru this with British custodian (bobby) helmets. Had to have one of each of the 3 types, which I do now. They were a lot less expensive than the pickelhaube though. I am still paying on Visa for the 1915, so it will be a while before I could buy another, but I can't quit looking at them...

Just a run of the mill helmet, but I finally have one

Yes, thanks for the comments. I ordered a strap from Prairie Flower Leather Company. There are others on the market that might be very good, but I appreciated the fact that Steffan replied to my emails. He offered to ship one with one end unsewn and include some thread so that I could size it...

Just a run of the mill helmet, but I finally have one

I do have a pair of cockades for this. And will get a replica chin strap. I am a little concerned about having one to long, that will not look right on the helmet. I guess most of the replicas are made to a similar general length. And yes, at one time I did collect 8 track tapes and players. I...

Just a run of the mill helmet, but I finally have one

Thanks Gus, I will try another link that I uploaded the pics to. If that does not work, I will try again. And yes, I plan on leaving this as is dust and all. hope this works: http://picasaweb.google.com/110865843059608170757/Pickelhaube#
