Other powers headgear from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Never really had a favorite helmet …till now….

Post by Spiker » Thu Jun 16, 2016 3:30 pm

This is definitely my favorite; the impressive Belgian cuirassier. :love10: :love10: :love10:
With original liner !!! ( this is often replaced on helmets more than 150 year old)

Many thanks to James from whom I was able to buy this great piece, and also special thanks to this forum, without it, I would have never know the overseas collectors . =D> =D> =D> :salute:

That is a beautiful helmet. What years was this model used?

Spiker I am glad it went to a good home, I miss it already.

I had two, and had them on each end of a book shelf, looked great.

I am so happy you like it and I will continue to enjoy the one I kept.

They are stunning to look at.

1843 till 1863: the cuirassiers were disbanded to form the 3rd and 4th Lancers Regiments

V = 1st Regiment Cuirassiers
V*=2nd Regiment Cuirassiers

The numbers are the helmet size

It is indeed a stunning helmet to marvel at, pictures don’t really do it justice.

Also a nice one Francis ,thanks for sharing. :thumb up:

When I first held it in my hand, I was surprised about the heavy weight; I guess I was used to the weight of helmets closer to the 1900ds

John ,As Francis pointed out this helmet was in use until 1863.

It has a lot of similarity with the common WWI helmet. :|

:o You startled me there. :D

A piece of history indeed Adler, and now back in Belgium :hello1:

They gave Napoleon hell, and they were there at the cradle of Belgium when they still had Dutch soldiers I their ranks and they had to fight the Dutch when Belgium was born,
but they stayed loyal to their regiment and galloped it to battle. :greentank:

Very nice helmet. You know the men who wore those rode high in the saddle!
